What Is A Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissues massage is a technique developed by a Canadian Doctor in the 1800’s, but became popular in 1949 when Dr. Therese Phimmer developed the guidelines for the technique. From that time, deep tissue work has found its way into sports medicine and physical therapy as a way of treating chronic pain and helping to heal muscular injuries.  This technique helps to loosen deep muscle tension, smoothes out scar tissue, reduces the effects of stress on the body.

Using a combination of slow, deep and targeted strokes, this style helps break up tension and knots hidden deep within the muscle fibers, providing greater freedom of movement. The muscle is stretched and separated, which creates better blood circulation to the area. This therapy is helpful in relieving pain due to muscle spasms, whiplash, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, muscle strains and more!
